Mishandling the consumables in this starter kit can compromise your laboratory work and lead to the loss of expensive peptides. The most serious risk is bacterial contamination. If you allow the needle to touch your fingers or the workbench, it is no longer sterile and will introduce pathogens directly into the peptide vial. This will ruin the entire solution and render it useless for further testing. Reusing syringes is another critical error. Even if you are drawing from the same vial, the needle deforms microscopically every time it pierces the rubber stopper. This leads to coring, where tiny pieces of rubber are torn away and fall into the vial, allowing air and contaminants to enter. Furthermore, residual liquid in a used needle can cause unpredictable interactions. Failing to track the expiration of the bacteriostatic water is also a common issue. Using the water more than 28 days after the first puncture means the preservative is no longer effective at stopping bacterial growth. Always write the date of first use on the label. Remember to use the alcohol swabs before every stopper puncture, waiting for the alcohol to evaporate completely before inserting the needle to avoid degrading the peptide.
